Raised Bed Garden

Where I live we have terrible soil for gardening. The soil is very dense and full of clay making it very difficult, if not impossible, for plants to take root. It also is very hard to maintain proper moisture in the soil.

Since I desperately wanted a backyard garden for the few vegetables and herbs that I use almost on a daily basis the best solution was a raised bed garden that would allow me to create the perfect growing environment.

I built a rectangular garden bed approximately 8 feet long, 4 feet wide and 3 feet in height. I filled the raised bed with soil I had delivered from my local nursery.

My raised bed garden has served me well, allowing me to plant my favorite tomatoes and herbs and also have a little room left over to experiment with some new and different plantings each year. As an added bonus, it is much easier to care for my garden since it sits a little higher and I don't have to kneel or bend as much as I would if my garden was in the ground.

The garden bed has also added a lot of appeal to my backyard. It adds height and interest. I can also plant flowers around the perimeter to add color and beauty.

I think a raised bed garden is a perfect solution for almost any backyard gardener.
